Cleopatra's Favorite Hat I decided I wanted a new hat to go with the winter jacket I'm making, out of some cotton tapestry fabric covered with Egyptian hieroglyphs. Thus this hat was born. |
I had not originally intended to add all the beads, not to mention the cobra, because I didn't want anything quite that decorative. But then I changed my mind about the accent color. I found a teal-based multi-color yarn that looks much better with the tapestry fabric than does this lapis/violet yarn. David pointed out that since it was the beginning of October, the timing couldn't be better for selling the hat on E-Bay -- for "serious" wear or for someone's Halloween costume. I am delighted to report that I made enough from the auction to cover the cost of materials for the new hat, which is now finished. I'll post photos when I get a chance. Cleopatra's Favorite Hat has been happily adopted by Katherine, the artist behind Daystar Handworks, herself an accomplished artist in a variety of media. If you're interested in something like this, please feel free to drop me a line. Finished Oct 2007 |
Eleanor (based on a vintage pattern for a Siamese kitten) Finished May 2007. |
